Exhibition - In the memory of Konstantinos Kefalas. 1991

A temporary exhibition organized by the Museum in November 1991 as part of a tribute to Konstantinos Kefalas, founder and Director of the Museum until 1979, arranged in association with the Friends of the F.E.M.M.-Th. and the Alumni Association of the A. Schina School.

Konstantinos Kefalas (1898-1989) had a rich and varied career. Teacher, thinker and man of action, apart from his work over many years organizing and staffing the Museum he will also be remembered for a substantial volume of writings - folklore, literature, art criticism and chronicles.

The exhibition featured a portrait of K. Kefalas as a young man, painted by Aginoras Asteriadis, and a wealth of photographic material, including family photographs and photographs taken by Kefalas himself during the Asia Minor campaign and subsequently donated to the 3rd Army Corps, as well as photographs of events staged by the Macedonian Educational Brotherhood, the Folklore Museum of Northern Greece and later the Macedonia-Thrace Folklife and Ethnological Museum. Also featured were personal mementoes such as diplomas, albums, the diary Kefalas kept diligently from his adolescent years, as well as books and journals representing his work as a folklorist and man of letters, kindly loaned for the purposes of the exhibition by Kefalas' family and colleagues.
