GENNADIUS LIBRARY OF THE AMERICAN SCHOOL OF CLASSICAL STUDIES, FOLKLIFE AND ETHNOLOGIKAL MUSEUM OF MACEDONIA, THESSALONIKI 1984

Monolingual publication: Greek EXHIBITION CATALOGUE As part of the DIMITRIA programme, the Museum presented to the public for the first time 24 watercolours by the official painter of General Makriyiannis, lent for this exhibition by the Gennadius Library. The works were painted (1836 - 1839) by Panayiotis Zografos, who was commissioned by the General to record the battles in which the great soldier took part. Apart from the purely visual part, each work also has an explanatory note in the General's own hand giving details on how the battle was fought.

The publication accompanying the exhibition includes photographs of the 24 works and articles on their provenance and subsequent history, the art of Zografos and generally the depiction of the struggle following the liberation.
