3. Moschopolis

Moschopolis (in present-day Albania) emerged as one of the most prominent commercial and intellectual hubs in the Balkans during the 18th century. Its groundbreaking printing activity—extraordinary for its era—significantly advanced the spread of education and knowledge. However, in the latter half of the century, raids and destruction by Turko-Albanian forces compelled its inhabitants to abandon the city, leading to their migration to Monastir (modern-day North Macedonia), Ioannina, Budapest, and Vienna.
