And it all began with a jug. 2008

The FEMM-Th hosted the temporary exhibition 'And it all begun with a jug', organized by the G. Psaropoulos Family Foundation - Center for the study of Traditional Pottery.

Σταμνα

85 stamnes (jugs) from all over Greece were displayed at the exhibition. Via the stamna  (jug), the exhibition attempted to guide the visitor to the art of functional pottery and the Greek traditional society as well, from the mid-eighteenth century to the mid-twentieth century.

In the framework of the exhibition, each Sunday of March and April, from 11:30 to 13:00, Simos Vardaxis, one of the last traditional potters in Thessaloniki, demonstrated to the visitors of the Museum the art of making a stamna (jug) by using a foot-operated wheel.

Along with the exhibition, two related educational programmes for children from 5 to 12 years old were taking place every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Exhibition duration: 27 February - 30 June 2008
