Wheat, Olive Oil, Wool: production and processing in Skyros. 1987

The exhibition featured models created by Dimitris Mathios, representing the various stages in the production and processing of wheat, olives and wool, three basic products for man's diet and dress.

Dimitris Mathios was born on Skyros in 1932 and as a young man worked as a farmer and livestock breeder. A self-taught craftsman, his models - which are fascinating as examples of contemporary folk art - depict his youthful experiences on Skyros as a farmer.

The exhibition was first seen in the spring of 1987 in the grounds of the International Trade Fair of Thessaloniki, as part of the Filoxenia fair. It was then incorporated into the permanent exhibition of the Museum, where it remained on the first floor until 1995.
